NEW WASHER AND DRYER
Oh how our world has changed.
Today was a pretty big day here at the Giddy house. Last week I noticed that the dryer wasn’t working properly. It would kick off before the end of its cycle and it wasn’t drying the clothes all that well. It’s probably ten or twelve years old. Not really sure since it came with the house, sort of like Chrissy, and I have no idea how old she is either. Anyway – I decided that rather than screw around with trying to fix it – let’s just go get a new washer and dryer, because in addition to the most recent issue, the ones we had pretty much sucked anyway.
So we checked out the sales flyers and looked up some models online. We decided to visit our local appliance giant on Thursday so as to avoid the weekend crowds. As usual even with all the sales and our research we decided on a fancy model that was not really on sale. We purchased an LG washer dryer combo with all sorts of fancy buttons and digital display. Primarily because they were red . Yet another reasonable purchase for a couple of unemployed boneheads yes?
They are really nice though. Three large burly gentlemen delivered them early this morning. Even Junior Miss Giddy gave her seal of approval – and she never likes anything that’s not green or blue. These things have more features than a multiplex, and the owners manuals seem to have been written by NASA. There’s so many different wash cycles we could probably clean the dog in there. The dryer also folds and hangs your clothes once they’ve dried, and if you press the right combination of buttons it’ll press your slacks and select a matching shirt and tie .
Well, it hasn’t changed your world at all – we’re NOT doing your laundry no matter how nicely you ask.
But our new appliances have pointed out just how differently we react to things as we get older. A dozen years ago – we could have gotten a new washer and dryer and not given it a second thought. We were busy traveling the world as internationally famous rock stars , cutting the VIP lines and hob-knobbing with celebrities and world leaders. Well, maybe something like that. Either way, Saturdays were far more interesting a few years ago.
We haven’t tried them out yet – we’re still trying to figure out what button to push to turn them on, so we figure they’re female. Perhaps tomorrow we’ll wash some of our old clothes and they’ll be so clean, they’ll look just like new.
If that’s the case – I’ll be tossing myself into the second load.
